Newcastle Municipality in KZN province is looking for a suspect who stole a job vacancy application box today.

The Municipality published a notice appealing for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect. The drop box was stolen during the morning at 10:30 am today.

The suspect is likely to target unsuspecting job applicants that had applied by dropping CVs at the municipality’s offices.

He is going to solicit money  in exchange for jobs, an old trick that is used by job scammers. According to a

Part of the notice by Newcastle Municipality read:

The Newcastle Municipality is appealing to members of the public to assist in finding the whereabouts of a suspect who stole the municipal vacancy drop-box

The suspect is believed to have made off with the box around 10:30am (21 Sep. 2020). At this stage it’s not clear whether the suspect was working alone or had assistance. The municipality believes that the suspect will target unsuspecting job applicants, and will try to solicit money from them, for jobs in return. An investigation is currently underway.
Suspect description: The suspect wore a yellow mask, white hat, blue jeans black sneakers and a grey jersey.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the municipality or the police.

According to Savanna News, the scammers usually call applicants pretending to be human resources officers from the hiring organisation and inform the applicants that they need to pay a fee to get the favours to get a job. The scammers usually call all the applicants.
